    I started the hosting and development division of our company. We grew from a hundred customers when I started to over 6500 customers at present (wireless, dsl, dialup, and hosting). I manage our web team which works with external projects, internal properties and projects, system administration, system monitoring, programming marketing, and many other operations duties.

    My family and I opened our first Hallmark store in April of 2004 (Amanda’s Hallmark) and our second store in June 2005 (Judy’s Hallmark) which we opened up June 2005. In January 2006, we launched our online gift selling business via eBay.
  • Hook Up, Inc. (Joplin, MO)
    Development Team Leader / Senior Web Developer, May 2000 to Oct 2002
    We wrote and launched hookup.com which was the world’s largest online truck and trailer auction. We hosted private auctions for over a dozen trucking companies including: International, Mack Trucks, and Peterbilt. I managed our web team on both internal and external projects, managed windows based web and database servers, and wrote quite a bit of the code.

    Quality System / Computer Technician, Summer 1995 to May 2000
    I filled in for various jobs and I worked in the quality control lab. My last two years with the company were spent helping obtain QS/ISO-9000 certification, maintaining various pieces of our computer hardware and network, audit departments, train employees, and improve our quality system. This included CQI various statistical tracking of products and inventory.

Skills

After working with two startups, I’ve had the unique opportunity to see every aspect from the start to the fall of a company. I’ve been a programmer, server guy, manager, and handled day to day operations roles. I’ve been involved with ordering servers, installation, stress testing, and scaling the hardware for high availability / load balancing. Not only was I the guy to pick the hardware and buy the equipment but I also was the guy to install, monitor, and later write code to run on them.

I’ve both built and maintained the following:

  • Many versions of Linux, FreeBSD, and other less cool platforms (Windows 2003, 2000, and NT)
  • Apache and Apache 2 web servers (some Lighttpd)
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL database servers
  • PowerDNS and Bind DNS servers
  • Qmail and Postfix email servers (including SPAM, anti-virus, and RBL’s)
  • Subversion, Nagios, FTP, Radius, and many other services

I have programmed websites / server utilities in: PHP, MySQL, Python, Perl, and Django. In a former life: ASP, Asp.net, C#, and MS-SQL.
