Synergy
Saturday, May 21st, 2005I stumbled on this gem tonight: “Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).” Synergy Home Page
Long story short, I use three monitors at home and my main machine has a dual monitor setup. My third monitor is shared on a KVM switch and I run half a dozen various Windows XP, FreeBSD, and a Linux box on it. Quite a few times I’m testing an application and going from my primary machine to my secondary machines, I hate having to switch to another keyboard / mouse in order to use that machine. Synergy let’s me move my mouse from one machine to another and type away as if I were running triple head, but I get all the advantages to running two machines with the comforts of one keyboard and mouse. This is espectially nice for running games on both machines and going back in forth.
